KSTP Producing Drama to Hype Local News

I’ll make this short because I know it won’t be popular.  But I just watched KSTP-TV broadcast a sad story about a 2 year-old girl who wandered from a family campsite and drown in a river at a Elk River, Minnesota, campground.

KSTP…you make me want to puke.

Featuring kids holding hands and praying and such stinks like bullshit to me.  Did your cameras just happen to be there?  Did your cameras by chance catch that bouquet of flowers floating down a tranquil stream as the kids pray?

Staging kids to create a story stinks, especially this kind of tragedy.  All too typical, however, in the phony drama of melodramatic news coverage.

If it bleeds it leads.  True.  Pulling at heartstrings comes in a strong second, even if you have to cute it up a bit and exploit the dead child’s friend’s.  Sick.
